Clean Hard Water Marks In A Stainless Dishwasher Tub

Hard water is the term to describe water that contains an abundance of minerals, such as calcium and magnesium. While these minerals are safe to consume, they can create buildups in pipes and drains and will often leave a chalky white residue as the water evaporates. If your stainless steel dishwasher is coated in hard water stains, clean them up as soon as possible to keep the dishwasher running optimally. The process is simple and does not require any expensive commercial cleaning products -- just a few items you may already have in your cupboards.

Instructions

1. Wipe the dishwasher tub down with warm water and a rag.

2. Sprinkle baking soda across the bottom of the dishwasher.

3. Scrub the dishwasher with a soft-bristled brush or terry cloth following the grain of the steel. Do not go against the grain, as this can cause permanent scratches.

4. Spray or sprinkle the dishwasher with white vinegar. Use only enough to lightly wet the bottom of the dishwasher. The vinegar will immediately begin to fizzle when it comes in contact with the lingering baking soda.

5. Dampen a cloth with white vinegar, and scrub the tougher hard water stains. Again, go with the grain, not against.

6. Run the dishwasher on a quick rinse cycle with a cup of vinegar in the top dish rack and nothing else in the dishwasher.
