Troubleshoot The Dishwasher Soap In The Bottom Of A Washer After A Full Cycle

Resolving the reason for detergent left in a dishwasher can be fairly simple

Dishwashers are a common feature in many homes and can be very convenient when it comes to washing pots, pans, dishes, silverware and other items. Dishwashers are manufactured by a wide variety of companies, such as Whirlpool, Bosch, Maytag and Frigidaire, among many others, and can generally be counted upon to work well. However, if problems arise with the dishwasher, such as if there is dishwashing detergent left in the bottom of the unit after the cycle has completed, some troubleshooting efforts may help users resolve the problem.

Instructions

1. Examine the dishwashing detergent and ensure it is the correct type of detergent for your dishwasher. Look inside your dishwasher user manual for guidance and consider switching to powdered detergent, as moisture may result in clumping and sticking to the dishwasher.

2. Purchase new detergent if the current detergent is more than 8 months old, as older detergent may clump or stick to itself or the dishwasher.

3. Use warm or hot water wash cycles and ensure your hot water is at least 120 degrees Fahrenheit. This can be accomplished by filling a glass container from hot water at the sink closest to the dishwasher. Place a cooking thermometer inside the water and wait a few minutes to read the temperature. Turn the thermostat on your home water heater up if necessary. Dishwashing detergent dissolves best in warm or hot water.

4. Wipe out the detergent dispenser with a dry, clean cloth to remove excess moisture. Ensure the switch on the detergent dispenser door is working correctly.

5. Avoid overloading the dishwasher and/or blocking the dispenser door with a large item, such as a pot, pan or cookie sheet.

6. Contact a service professional for assistance if the above steps do not resolve the problem.
