Whirlpool Range Troubleshooting Codes

The Whirlpool Corporation, headquartered in Benton Charter Township, Michigan, is multinational appliance company. It sells its products under different brand names, including Jenn-Air, Maytag and Amana. The company creates durable gas and electric ranges, but you can still experience problems with your range. A trouble code or flashing lights on your display indicates an issue with your range. Try troubleshooting these problems before contacting a service technician.

Flashing Time

If the time is flashing on your Whirlpool range display, this indicates that the power has gone out. You must clear the display and reset the clock. The instructions for changing the settings range by model. Generally, you must press the "Settings" button seven times, and then use the up and down arrows to set the time.

Letter/Number

A letter followed by a number indicates a major issue with your cooking range. Try clearing the message by pressing either "Cancel/Off" or "Off/Cancel" depending on your model. If that doesn't clear the message, try unplugging your oven from the power source for at least 30 seconds. If the message reappears, you must call for service.

Push/Bake Lock

If you see a "PSH" or "Push" flashing on your display, then push the "Start" button to start the cooking function. If you don't press the "Start" button within 30 seconds of selecting a cooking function, then the oven cancels the request, and it shows the current time. "Lock" or "Bake" flashing in the display indicates that the power has gone out. Clear the error, and reset the clock. Reset the cooking function, and restart your oven.

Additional Issues

If the oven indicator lights flash, try clearing the lights. If they don't clear, you must call for service. If your Whirlpool range won't operate, verify that it's plugged into an outlet and that the power is on. Check that a circuit breaker isn't tripped and that you don't have any blown fuses. Bad fuses have either broken wires, or they are black in color. If it's a gas range, turn the gas supply valve to the "On" position, and check that you have gas in your tank. Always level your oven before attempting to cook food on either the cooktop or oven. Rise up the lower end with wood shims until a bubble indicates that the range is completely level. Only use the proper size cookware for the food and for the burner. Only use cookware the same size or slightly larger than the burner. Always use the proper settings and cooking times for the food item.
