Disassemble A Drain Pump In A Ge Dishwasher

Disassemble a Drain Pump in a GE Dishwasher

The GE dishwasher has an important component called the drain pump, which is responsible for regulating water and detergent during the washing process. If the drain hose--which is connected to the pump--becomes clogged with residue and grime or is ruptured, it can effect the drain pump's ability to fill up or properly rinse during a cycle. Before dissembling the drain pump from its hose, contact GE for a replacement hose that matches your specific model.

Instructions

1. Power off the GE dishwasher and disconnect it from the electrical outlet.

2. Use a screwdriver to loosen and remove the screws from the dishwasher's kickplate, or the foot panel. If your GE model doesn't have screws on the outside of the kickplate, open the dishwasher's door to access and remove the screws from the base of the dishwasher.

3. Once the panel is removed, locate the drain hose below the lower spray arm. The drain hose will be connected to the dishwasher's drain pump. Situate a shallow pan below the hose to catch water spills. To disassemble the drain pump from the hose, pinch its wire clamp with needle-nose pliers and slide the clamp up the hose. Then, dislocate the drain pump from the hose.

4. Refasten one end of the new replacement hose to the pump's assembly, and the other end to the replacement hose's sink drain. Make sure that the connection is fastened securely.

5. Replace the clamps as they were secured before. Replace the lower panel. Reassemble the dishwasher's power supply before operation.
