Granite as a counter top material has several advantages. It is durable, aesthetically pleasing and does not absorb bacteria. Though it is a durable material, granite can still be chipped and cracked, and, when this happens, it loses some aesthetic appeal. A small chip in a granite counter top can be fixed without too much difficulty.
Instructions
1. Wash the chipped area with a mild dish soap and water. Use a sponge and gently scrub the area so that is is clear of dirt and any other contaminants.
2. Use a clean towel to dry the area and allow some time for it to dry completely. At least one hour should be enough for the counter top to dry.
3. Make sure you are wearing latex gloves before handling epoxy. With your gloves on, mix the epoxy resin and epoxy hardener according to their instructions. Granite epoxy resin and hardener are available online, as well as in specialty stores, though you can also find them as part of many stone restoration kits.
4. Spread the epoxy over the chipped area. Fill in the chip and clear away excess epoxy with a razor blade. Let the epoxy dry, according to its instructions.
5. Once the epoxy is dry, spread granite sealer over the repaired chip using a paint brush. This restores the granite's shine.
