GE Profile cooktops offer burners designed to quickly bring water to a boil.
Cooktops are used in combination with wall ovens to replace ranges in home kitchens. Separating the stove from the range can allow more flexibility in the room's design. "Consumer Reports" advises cooktop shoppers to look for models that include at least one high-powered element or burner. The publication also suggests that families with children look for models that allow parents to disable oven controls. The GE Profile line offers more than four dozen cooktops for buyers to consider.
GE PP912BMBB
One of the lowest-priced offerings in GE's Profile cooktop lineup is this black, electric model. The PP912BMBB had a manufacturer's suggested price of $849 in December 2010. It measures 29.75 inches wide, 3.25 inches high and 21.375 inches deep. The PP912BMBB has a ceramic glass cooktop and one 9-inch/12-inch element that can be set to match the size of the pot you're using. It also has two 6-inch elements and one 8-inch element. This model includes dishwasher-safe knobs. The bisque (PP912KMCC) and white (PP912TMWW) versions of this cooktop have a suggested price of $899, and the stainless-steel version (PP912SMSS) costs around $950 in December 2010.
GE JGP963WEKWW
This white, gas cooktop has continuous grates designed to make it easy to slide pots and pans across the cooking surface. Its five burners include one designed for quick boiling (15,000 BTUs), two for simmering items (5,000 BTUs), one all-purpose burner (9,500 BTUs) and one high-powered burner (11,000 BTUs). Its dishwasher-safe control knobs are located in the front, center portion of the appliance. This unit is 36 inches wide, 3.1875 high and 21 inches deep. It has a recessed design with sealed burners to contain spills. GE suggests a price of $949 for this model as well as its black counterpart (JGP963BEKBB). The stainless steel version (JGP963SEKSS) costs about $100 more.
GE PP975SMSS
GE installed digital controls on this model to maintain its streamlined design. The PP975SMSS measures 36.125 inches wide, 3.25 inches high and 21 inches deep. It features a dual-heat element that can accommodate 5- or 8-inch cookware and a tri-ring element that can be set for 6-, 9- or 12-inch pans. Two 6-inch elements also appear on this cooktop, which can be locked to keep children safe. This black unit features a stainless-steel frame and has a suggested price of $1,299. A solid black version (PP975BMBB) costs about $100 less.
GE JGP975SEKSS
You get five burners on the gas cooktop, which is finished in stainless steel at a suggested cost of $1,399. The JGP975SEKSS has a dual-flamer burner that can be used for rapid boiling or simmering (18,000 BTUs) as well as an all-purpose burner (9,500 BTUs). This unit also offers a high-output burner (11,000 BTUs) and two burners for simmering (5,000 BTUs). It has dishwasher-safe grates and knobs as well as a child-lockout feature. This cooktop is 36 inches wide, 3.1875 inches high and 21 inches deep. It provides sealed burners and continuous grates. The black (JGP975BEKBB) and white (JGP975WEKWW) versions have a suggested cost of $1,299.
