The Maytag Corporation owns the Magic Chef line of ovens. Some models feature a "Pilotless Ignition" system that helps conserve gas consumption. The system works by igniting the gas with a "glo" bar after the user selects the desired temperature setting. The system design causes a 45-second delay between the time the user turns the dial and the actual lighting of the burners. This makes some users think it is difficult to light a Magic Chef oven.
Instructions
1. Verify that the shutoff valve for the gas main is open. Verify that the shutoff valve to the oven is open. In general, the valves have an oval, or similar, shape that makes it easy to identify the open and closed positions. The tips of the oval must be parallel to the gas line to open the valve. Most users may skip this step as the gas main should be on all the time unless you recently finished an installation.
2. Push the temperature dial on the face of the Magic Chef oven in slightly.
3. Turn the dial to the desired temperature setting and release the dial.
4. Wait 45 seconds until the automatic ignition system lights the oven.
5. Wait 10 to 15 minutes before placing your food in the oven. This allows the oven to preheat to the desired temperature.
