Troubleshoot The Broiler On A Thermador Smw272 Builtin Oven

The Thermador SMW272 is a unique kitchen appliance, as it combines a microwave, warming drawer and convection oven in one. The oven is a built-in model, meaning that it is intended for installation in the wall of your home's kitchen. The convection oven also has a broiler, which consists of a metal coil heating element on the roof of the oven. After regular use, the broil element may stop functioning. To determine if the broil element or electronic oven control is to blame, remove the broil element for inspection and testing.

Instructions

1. Turn off the oven breaker in your home's main service panel.

2. Open the oven door and remove the oven racks from the oven cavity.

3. Remove the mounting screws at the base of the broil element, as well as the screws securing the element to the roof of the oven.

4. Pull the element away from the rear wall of the oven and then pull the wire connectors off the element terminals. If one of the wires is not securely connected to the element, connect it, reinstall the element and then test the oven again.

5. Examine the element for damage, including any breaks, blisters or cracks. Replace the element if damage is found.

6. Set the multimeter to the lowest setting to measure ohms of resistance, and then calibrate the meter. For specific instructions for your multimeter, refer to the owner's manual.

7. Touch one of the multimeter probes to one of the terminals on the heating element. Touch the other terminal with the other probe.

8. Look at the readout on the multimeter. If the meter shows a resistance between 0 and 50 ohms of resistance, the element is properly functioning, and the electronic oven control must be replaced.
