Avoid service fees and repair dishwasher problems by yourself.
A dishwasher washes your dishes using heated water and detergent. Once the wash cycle is done, the heating element on the base of the tub heats up the internal air, drying your dishes. If your dishes remain wet after the cycle is complete, find and repair the source of the problem yourself and avoid repair fees.
Rinse Aid/Common Problems
If your dishes aren't drying, use a rinse aid. The rinse aid prevents moisture from building up inside the dishwasher. Add more rinse aid to the dispenser if it is empty. Never overload the dishwasher. This keeps air from freely flowing around your dishes, preventing certain dishes from drying. Certain dishes such as plastic and Teflon dishes normally don't completely dry during the drying cycle. Use a heated drying cycle and not an air dry cycle.
Thermostat
The thermostat is responsible for monitoring the temperature of both the water and the drying cycle. If the thermostat isn't working, your dishwasher won't dry your dishes enough or at all. Test the thermostat by running the shortest wash cycle. Use the hottest temperature setting possible. Let the dishwasher run through the cycle and open the door during the drying cycle. If the inside of the dishwasher isn't hot, the thermostat is probably defective. Get a new one, since it's difficult to repair this component.
Heating Element
The heating element warms up the inside the tub during the drying cycle. This element looks like a long tube that runs along the bottom of the tub. Examine the heating element and see whether it is broken or burned out. If it looks fine, unplug the dishwasher from the wall outlet and remove the panel beneath the door. Look at the terminals and connectors. If any of these components are corroded, replace or clean them. Test the heating element with a multi-meter. You must receive a reading between zero and infinity. If not, the element is not working properly. Purchase a new heating element from a dishwasher parts dealer, since it's difficult to repair this component.
Drying Fan
The drying fan moves the heated air around the dishes, assisting the drying process. Not all types of dishwashers have a drying fan. Check the manual and see whether one is installed in the dishwasher. The fan can get dirty or wear out over time. Remove the main access panel and clean the fan if it's extremely dirty. If it is rusted out or doesn't easily turn, replace it. since it's difficult to repair the drying fan.
