Design A Kitchen Sink

If the kitchen is the heart of the home, then the sink is the heart of the kitchen. Many activities take place around and in the kitchen sink. Designing the kitchen sink takes some thought into how the sink will be used. There are many different options on how many bowls the sink will have and how big each bowl should be.

Instructions

What Are Your Needs

1. Measure the area where you want to place the sink. This will determine the size you can use and what features you may want with your sink. Many people like to have two bowls, but it is not unusual now to have three bowls in your sink.

2. Measure the depth clearance you will have underneath the sink. This will help you determine how deep the sink can sit. Many different factors determine the depth allowed for kitchen sinks, such as the countertop height, the size of the garbage disposal, and what you want to place underneath the sink in the cabinet.

3. Locate you plumbing lines. It is important to know where your plumbing lines are coming into the kitchen and where you are going to put the sink and dishwasher. It will save you a lot of money if you do not have to reroute the plumbing lines.

Design

4. Decide on how you are going to use the sink. This will help you decide if you need a single bowl, double bowl or a triple bowl sink. If you like to have a prep sink area and a separate area for the garbage disposal and you have the room, you might want to consider a triple bowl sink.

5. Look at the different options available. Many people have discovered the value of having a prep sink or entertainment sink that is smaller and helpful for entertaining and cooking needs. Another popular option is the farmhouse or apron sink because of the depth it offers. Take pictures of different sinks that you find interesting.

6. Decide if you want an undermount or a top mount sink. Many people who are putting in new countertops like to have an undermount sink because it offers a seamless installation. If you are just replacing the sink, then you might want to consider a top mount because of the ease of installation on an existing countertop.
