Beer bottle
If you brew your own beer at home, you'll definitely want to make sure that your equipment is clean, particularly if you're bottling your product. Beer bottles can be sanitized in a dishwasher, which means you're rendering them free of all harmful organisms. Since sanitizing is usually standard for all brewing procedures, the steamy dishwasher is a great tool for helping to get your bottles clean and ready for new brew. Add this to my Recipe Box.
Instructions
1. Clean the inside of your bottles by hand. While the dishwasher is great for overall sanitization, it won't be able to get sticky residue out of the inside of the bottles, if there is any. Use your bottle scrubber and a mild, unscented detergent to remove any sticky residue. You can also use a product like StarSan or Iodophor to ensure that the insides of the bottles are completely sanitary.
2. Line the bottles up in the dishwasher with the mouths facing downward to make sure the wash water doesn't collect inside. Set them up with enough space between them so that if one falls over during the wash cycle it won't damage any of the other bottles.
3. Set the dishwasher for a normal cycle. Since the steam and heat are what will sanitize the bottles, detergent isn't necessary.
4. Run the dishwasher cycle fully, allowing the bottles to stay inside the washer for the complete heat dry cycle.
