Troubleshoot A Magic Chef Clothes Dryer

Magic Chef no longer makes dryers, yet there are still many people who own older models. The good news is that if you need a replacement part, Magic Chef generally makes them readily available. Before you call to order new parts, try to troubleshoot the problems on your own. You may end up saving yourself a whole lot of money.

Power

If your Magic Chef Clothes Dryer will not turn on, check to make sure the unit is properly connected to the power source. Ensure that you have not accidentally blown a fuse or tripped a circuit breaker. In addition, make sure you have set the controls the correct way. Your owner's manual (See References) will have instructions on do this. Don't forget that if the dryer door is not shut all the way, the dryer will not operate. Also, make sure the lint screen is in its slot in the correct way.

Dryness

If your clothing is not drying properly, check to see if your lint screen or exhaust pipe may be clogged. Also, check to see if the timer dial is set correctly and to the proper dryness setting. Remember that if the clothing is unusually wet it will be hard to dry. You may want to put it back into the washer for another spin cycle before attempting to dry it in the dryer.

Noise

Some noises are normal with your dryer, but some are clearly not. Make sure that you have removed all items from the pockets of your clothing, as they can make a lot of noise when banging around in the drum of the dryer. In addition to making noise, however, they also can damage the dryer and perhaps your clothing.
