Remove odors from a stainless steel dishwasher with white vinegar.
Food becomes lodged around the seal or gasket in the door or in the drain of stainless steel dishwashers, releasing odors as the particles remain hidden. Over time these odors leave your dishes with the same rancid smell, defeating the cleaning process. Proper cleaning of the dishwasher not only means removing the stuck particles of food but also ridding the odor from inside the dishwasher so your dishes smell fresh and sanitized.
Instructions
1. Remove any dishes or pots and pans from the dishwasher. Fill a bucket halfway with hot water and 1/2 teaspoon of grease-cutting dish soap.
2. Wet an old, clean toothbrush with the soapy water. Scrub along the gasket of the door of the dishwasher. Reach into tiny areas with the toothbrush to remove hidden food.
3. Dip a sponge into the soapy water and wipe it over the inside of the door, removing any loosened food particles.
4. Remove the top and bottom racks from the dishwasher. Wipe the top, sides and bottom of the dishwasher with the soapy sponge. Reach down into the drain area with the sponge, removing any pieces of food stuck inside. Rinse the sponge and wipe over the inside of the dishwasher.
5. Place towels on the floor and set the racks on top. Wipe the racks with the sponge and soapy water. Rinse the sponge in hot water and wipe over the racks to remove the soapy residue. Replace the racks in the dishwasher.
6. Remove the silverware holder and clean it with the soapy water and sponge. Rinse the soap from the holder by holding it under running hot water in the sink. Replace the silverware basket in the dishwasher.
7. Fill a small cup with white vinegar and place it on the top rack of the dishwasher.
8. Run the dishwasher on a short cycle using hot water. The vinegar absorbs odors, removing them from the dishwasher.
