Troubleshooting A Maytag Quiet Series 400 Dishwasher

Your Maytag dishwasher can handle large loads of dirty dishes.

Maytag is known for creating reliable and affordable home appliances, including ovens, refrigerators and dishwashers. The Maytag 400 series is designed to run more quietly than some of the other models that it produces. Even if you follow the manufacturer's recommendations regarding what materials are safe for washing and load the dishwasher, you may experience operational issues with the dishwasher. You can use these simple troubleshooting steps to help isolate and resolve the issue, and get your dishwasher up and running again.

Instructions

1. Check the door, power and the settings. If your dishwasher won't start, first check to see that the door is firmly closed and securely latched. Open the dishwasher and check that the racks are pushed in and nothing is blocking the door. If this does not fix the problem, make sure that the dishwasher isn't set to "delayed start" and that the "start" button has been selected. If this still doesn't resolve the issue, check that the breaker box fuses have not been tripped. You can usually find your fuse box in a garage or basement.

2. Check the drain and drain hose for obstructions. If the water isn't draining from the dishwasher, this could be due to a blockage in the drain or the drain hose. To clean the drain, remove the bottom rack and locate the filters. Clean any food debris or large objects that may be blocking the drain. If you need further access to the drain, remove the screws keeping the filter cover in place. To reach the drain hose, you may need to pull the dishwasher out of the inset to access the back of the unit.

3. Check the wash arm and interior for obstructions. If your Maytag dishwasher is making a lot of noise, it could be because something is obstruction the wash arm, such as a dislodged utensil. Open the dishwasher door and remove the bottom rack by lifting it off of the rails and sliding it out. Remove loose silverware and make sure that the wash arm spins freely. Also, check for items that are sticking through the bottom of the rack. Check for obstructions on the underside of the arm and its based. Replace the rack and start the wash over.

4. Make sure that the dishwasher is level and the detergent level is accurate. Your dishwasher may leak if it has not been installed on a level surface. Use a level to make sure that it is not off-kilter and then adjust with shims if necessary. An overabundance of detergent may also cause the dishwasher to leak due to too many suds. Read the instructions on the detergent and use the correct amount. If the rinse aid cap or door isn't closed tightly, the liquid could also leak from the dishwasher. Tighten the cap or make sure the door is closed tightly to the rinse aid reservoir.
