The Hotpoint brand is applied to a range of appliances in the United States, Canada and Europe.
Hotpoint appliances are manufactured by General Electric in the USA and Canada, and Indesit in the UK, Ireland and Europe. Although General Electric owns part of the European brand the two companies are entirely separate. Since so many different appliances are manufactured under the Hotpoint brand it is impossible to provide precise troubleshooting advice. Broadly speaking, Hotpoint appliances all require electricity, water or gas to perform their function. The best way of troubleshooting your appliance is ensuring it has access to the necessary resources.
Instructions
1. Confirm the controls are in the necessary position for your cooking or cleaning cycle. You might be making a mistake or selecting incompatible options. Ensure you press the "Start" button, if necessary, to activate the appliance. Some appliances retain instructions between cycles; ensure you re-program the appliance each time, if necessary.
2. Hold down the "Lock" or padlock icon button for about three seconds and try the appliance's controls again. Some Hotpoint appliances are fitted with a child lock that prevents children starting or reprogramming the controls while you are away. The lock is reactivated by repeating this step.
3. Verify the appliance can access everything it requires. Make sure the power cord is connected to an outlet and the hot and cold water hoses are straight. Turn the water or gas shut-off valves to the "Open" position before attempting to use the appliance. Change the LP gas tank used with your appliance if it is running low or empty.
4. Reconsider the location of your appliance in your home. Some appliances need ventilation and cannot be stored close to cupboards, walls or other appliances. Dryers and air conditioners often need to be located in a heated room while refrigerators shouldn't be placed next to heat sources like ovens.
5. Disconnect the power and wait 30 seconds; the internal computer might be scrambled. The internal computer resets itself once the power is reconnected, often resolving minor technical issues. Some of the settings stored on your appliance might be lost when you cut the power.
