Fix A Leaking Hot Point Dishwasher

Leaky dishwashers may need to have new pump seals installed.

Hot Point is an offshoot of General Electric, and uses the same parts. In fact, General Electric and Hot Point dishwashers even contain the same pump and motor. When determining what to fix or replace on a Hot Point dishwasher, begin with proper troubleshooting steps to avoid paying for unnecessary repairs.

Instructions

Troubleshooting

1. Verify your detergent type. Use of the wrong detergent or too much detergent can cause suds in the dishwasher. The suds, in turn, leak out of the door seal onto the floor.

2. Remove the door seals and thoroughly clean the seal and its holder with undiluted hot white vinegar.

3. Open up the kickplate and use a flashlight to check for water under the unit. If you see water under the dishwasher, then the pump seal is leaking.

Replacing the Pump Seal

4. Unplug the machine.

5. Remove the suction port nut with a wrench. The nut has a left-handed thread, so you will need to turn your wrench clockwise to remove the nut.

6. Disassemble the parts one at a time, placing them in reverse order as you go.

7. Stop when you reach the rubber pump seal that looks like a thimble.

8. Replace the pump seal with a new one and re-assemble the pump. Pour 1 cup of water into the bottom of the dishwasher before running the machine, as running the pump dry will break it.
