Painting on wine glasses can turn plain glasses into works of art. Painted wine glasses are available at specialty stores but can be quite expensive. You can use special glass paint to make your own for any occasion or for everyday use. Glass paints are heat-set, meaning they have to be baked on to keep them from wearing or flaking off. Once heat-set, the paint will be dishwasher safe and will last for many years. Glass paints are available at craft and hobby stores.
Instructions
1. Tape your stencil onto the glass with the painter's tape. You can purchase stencils from craft stores or cut your own from heavyweight paper using a craft knife.
2. Use a small paintbrush to fill in the stencil with the glass paint. If you make a mistake, remove the paint with a cotton swab dipped in rubbing alcohol.
3. Turn the glass upside down. Paint the bottom in a color that complements your design. Alternatively, stencil a matching pattern onto the bottom of the glass.
4. Set the glass on a baking sheet and allow it to dry for 24 hours.
5. Bake the glass to set the paint. Baking times and temperatures will differ by paint manufacturer, but the average is 325 degrees Fahrenheit for 35 to 40 minutes. Place the glasses into a cold oven, then turn on the heat; do not preheat first. Allow the glasses to cool thoroughly before using.
