GE, formerly General Electric, has been "bringing good things to life" since 1907 in the realm of household appliances. Today, it offers appliances with the latest technology in various styles and price ranges. Two of its appliance lines are the Profile and the Cafe. Although differences between the lines exist, individual consumer taste and decor choice play a large factor in which line to choose.
GE Profile Line
The GE Profile line of appliances features contemporary styling along with state-of-the-art technology. GE describes this line as "sleek, cosmopolitan and modern." The line includes refrigerators, wine refrigerators and beverage centers for food storage and preservation. Its cooking appliances include not only ranges, wall ovens and microwave ovens but also warming drawers and speed-cooking ovens. Other appliances include dishwashers, washers and dryers, and trash compactors. Special features include a Smart Dispense reservoir in the dishwasher, holding a 45-oz. bottle of detergent, automatically dispensed when the cycle begins. Washers and dryers are available in various colors, with extra-large capacity. The beverage center holds 150 cans or a dozen wine bottles and 126 cans.
GE Cafe Line
Inspired by professional cafe restaurants, the GE Cafe Line is designed to resemble stainless steel kitchens in restaurants. Its 1,100-watt over-the-range microwave oven includes a four-speed venting system. The line includes an electric, gas and dual fuel range, a dishwasher, a microwave oven, a vent hood and refrigerators. The latter include a counter-depth side-by-side model and a freestanding side-by-side model. A French-door model has been discontinued.
Differences
The GE Cafe line does not include washers and dryers or trash compactors, focusing entirely on food preparation and storage models, nor does the line offer beverage centers or wine refrigerators. The GE Profile line includes far more models than the Cafe, in a variety of colors, while the Cafe line is available only in stainless steel. The Profile line emphasizes styling and decor, while the Cafe line focuses on those hoping to duplicate restaurant-quality meals with ovens, ranges, dishwashers and refrigerators inspired by those used in professional restaurant kitchens. The Cafe line is less expensive than the Profile line.
