Hotpoint is a brand of appliances sold by GE Appliances, a division of the General Electric Company. GE produces long-lasting, efficient products, but you may still experience minor trouble with your Hotpoint dishwasher. Avoid expensive service repairs by repairing common problems with your dishwasher. Disconnect the dishwasher from the power source to avoid injuries. If you cannot fix the problem, contact an authorized GE service technician for assistance.
Not Starting
If your Hotpoint dishwasher doesn't start, push the plug firmly into the socket and completely close the door. If the door is not securely latching, check the door gaskets. If food or debris is stuck in the door gaskets, clean them. If the gaskets are not attaching properly, replace the gaskets.
Verify that the water supply valve is in the "On" position and that the water inlet hose is connected to the dishwasher. Check your household fuses and replace them if blown. Reset the circuit breaker. If these don't resolve the problem, examine your door switch, which is located inside the top panel. The switch has four wires. If any of the wires are broken or burned out, replace them.
Cleaning Issues
Your dishes will not clean properly if your water temperature is below 120 degrees Fahrenheit or if your water pressure is below 20 psi (pounds per square inch). Test the water temperature by running the hot water in your kitchen faucet and place a waterproof thermometer under the water. If it's too cold, increase the water temperature on your water heater. Test the water pressure with a water gauge. If the pressure is extremely low, you must wait until the pressure is normal again.
Always properly load your dishwasher and use fresh detergent. Do not block the spray arm. If the spray arm is not moving during the cleaning cycle, replace it. Use more detergent if you have very hard water, or use a water filter if your water has a high mineral content.
Not Filling/Noise
If your Hotpoint dishwasher tub is not filling with water, check the water inlet hose and straighten it if kinked. Remove any clogs in the filter or the hose. Turn the water inlet valve to the "On" position. If the valve doesn't turn or is leaking, replace it. Examine the float switch, which is located on the bottom front of the tub. Press on it if it's not moving freely. If it still doesn't move, replace it. Your dishwasher normally makes grinding and water noises. If the dishwasher is vibrating, level it with wood shims or fix the flooring beneath it. A rattling inside the dishwasher indicates that cookware is not properly secure. Stop the dishwasher and rearrange the dishes and utensils.
Not Draining
Your Hotpoint dishwasher tub doesn't drain if the air gap or drainage hose is clogged. Remove any kinks from the hose. If these are not dirty, check your household plumbing. If your dishwasher is connected to a garbage disposal, run the disposal to clear it. If these aren't the problem, you may have an issue with your pump or motor. Contact a service technician.
