In the process of installing a dishwasher, the drain hose must be connected to the sink drain or garbage disposal. The drain hose on most dishwashers is long enough to accommodate most situations. Some kitchens may be arranged in such a manner that the standard dishwasher drain hose may need to be spliced to increase its length. The job is accomplished with a few basic plumbing materials and a minimal amount of effort on your part.
Instructions
1. Wrap the ends of the hoses being spliced together with Teflon tape. The tape seals the connection and also helps the 5/8-inch dishwasher line fit into the 3/4-inch coupling. Dry fit the hoses into the coupling to ensure a tight fit. Add more tape if the connections are loose.
2. Apply PVC primer to the ends of both hoses over the tape and on the inside of both ends of the coupling. The primer will help the cement bond the plastic parts.
3. Brush PVC cement onto the ends of the hoses using the applicator provided with the cement. Apply the cement to at least two inches of the ends of the hoses.
4. Insert the ends of the hoses into the PVC coupling. Hold the parts together for two to three minutes to give the cement a chance to bond. Let the cement dry for a couple of hours before installing the drain hose.
