Use Lemons To Clean A Home

Lemon Fresh, Lemon Clean!

Many times we think we must buy expensive cleaners in order to achieve the clean results we want for our home. However, there are many areas in your home that you will be able to use fresh lemon with dramatic results.

Instructions

Use of Lemons in the Kitchen

1. Many areas have hard water which can spot dishes as well as silverware in the dishwasher. In addition to the spots that can be present on our dishes, glasses and flatware, dishwasher tablets can also leave a residue. However, if you squeeze 1 to 2 tablespoons of fresh lemon juice in the soap dispenser of the dishwasher prior to placing the cleaning tablet in, you will notice an astounding difference in the appearance of your dishes. Also, the inside of your dishwasher will look almost new from the lemon juice that was added.Another use for lemons in the kitchen is to freshen the garbage disposal. After using the fresh squeezed lemon in your dishwasher, place the squeezed lemon, rind and all in your garbage disposal. Be sure to turn warm water on while your garbage disposal is grinding the lemon. The kitchen will now have the added bonus of smelling "lemon fresh," and the garbage disposal will also be rid of any lingering food smells. If you have stubborn tile grout stains in your kitchen, place a small amount of baking soda (2 tsps) and a freshly squeezed lemon in a bowl and lightly mash the two together to create a paste. Using an old tooth brush place the mixture on the bristles and then brush the stubborn grout stains with the mixture back and forth. Most stains will lift from your grout, and smell fresh too. Also, you may use some fresh squeezed lemon juice on top of a flat surfaced stove stain. Let it sit for two to three minutes and wipe off the stain with a wet dish cloth. The lemon will cut the baked in burn of spilled liquid. It's best if you use the lemon after the stove has cooled down, but before another liquid spill over occurs on top of the old uncleaned spill.

2. Another use for lemons is that of a brass cleaner. If you have brass door knobs, or perhaps a front door knocker that is made of brass, a raw lemon will help to shine and clean them for you. Slice the lemon in half, hold your clean rag underneath the door knob or brass surface to be cleaned. Next, place the lemon half over the door knob and turn the knob back and forth as though it were like a cue stick being chalked for playing pool. Remove the lemon and note the blackness from the brass has transferred to the innards of the lemon and the brass is remarkably lighter. Use your rag to wipe off the lemon and to polish the brass now that the tarnish has disappeared.

3. You may also use fresh squeezed lemons is in the toilet with bleach. One freshly squeezed lemon with a quarter cup of bleach will aide in cleaning your toilet while making your bathroom smell fresh at the same time. Also, lemon juice and water can act as as a natural potpourri. Cut three to four lemons in half, grade the rind portion, and place in boiling water . For added citrus zest, add a halved orange to the boiling water. Boil for 10 minutes and then simmer.Lemons can also be used with one part vinegar to two parts water as a natural window washing solution Windows cleaned with this natural solution come out bright, streak free and very clean. Be sure to use a lint free, all cotton cloth when wiping the windows clean.

4. Half a cup of fresh squeezed lemon juice with 1/4 cup of mineral oil can also be used to condition the wood in furniture, much like a professional wood product. Be sure to test on an inconspicuous area, as some woods containing something other than pure wood may not soak up the solution evenly. The shine on those that do absorb the solution is beautiful.
