A summer time home, beach house or vacation house must be winterized and closed for that season. If a home is not correctly winterized, you risk seriously harmful your house. Using the proper steps, you can preserve the home safe while you are away.
Instructions
1. Locate the primary water supply towards the house and power it down.
2. Open every faucet in the home to empty water from the pipes. Leave taps open. Be sure to range from the shower, water via a refrigerator door, ice maker, washer and dishwasher.
3. Drain baseboard and radiator heating units.
4. Drain all garden hoses.
5. Hook an outdoor hose to the bottom of the warm water heater to empty it. Turn off electric or gas supply towards the warm water heater. Drain water softener for those who have one.
6. Flush the toilets. Make use of a plunger to pressure the rest of the water from the flushed empty toilet. Make use of a rag or sponge to get rid of water left within the toilet tank.
7. Put non-toxic antifreeze within the shower drain, toilet and all sorts of sink drains. This is often bought at boat supply stores or RV stores.
8. Close the flue towards the fire place, for those who have one. Cap the chimney to help keep wild birds, squirrels and then any other rats out.

11. Shut the gas supply off in the primary.
12. Shut the electrical supply off in the primary.
13. Call the neighborhood police department to inform them you're gone for that winter. Leave your title and telephone number where one can be arrived at just in case of the emergency.
