While plastic food containers provide convenient food storage for leftover foods, they may develop unsightly stains depending upon what you store in them. Tomato-based foods contain a chemical that colors the tomatoes. When you store these foods in plastic containers, the same chemical usually transfers to the interior of the container and stains it. When your plastic containers develop orange stains on the plastic, remove these stains to restore your containers to their clean condition.
Instructions
1. Fill the sink with 1 part chlorine bleach and 2 parts cool water, placing enough of both ingredients in the sink so you can submerge the plastic containers beneath the surface of the water. Swirl around the liquids with a spoon to mix them thoroughly.
2. Place the stained plastic containers into the sink, and push them beneath the surface of the water to cover them completely.
3. Leave the plastic containers to soak in the bleach water for approximately 30 minutes. Remove the containers from the bleach water, and drain the sink.
4. Fill the sink with warm water and add two to three squirts of dishwashing soap to the water. Wash the plastic containers in the soapy water with the dishcloth. Rinse them thoroughly with warm water and dry them with the dishtowel.
