Ge Nautilus Dishwasher Leak

The General Electric Co., headquartered in Fairfield, Conn., produces consumer and commercial solutions and technologies. It produced the GE Nautilus series of built-in and portable dishwashers. These dishwashers generally are no longer covered by a warranty. If you need replacement parts, however, you can purchase them from third-party vendors. Repair leaking problems with your GE Nautilus to avoid calling GE and paying for repair fees.

Clogs/Hoses

If your GE Nautilus dishwasher is leaking, examine the drainage hose, water filters and air gap for clogs. Clogs stop water from moving forward, causing backups. These backups lead to leaks. The air gap is located near the sink, and it is covered with a cap. Use a plastic utensil or a dull instrument to remove debris from these components. Examine the hoses, and see if they are split or cracked. You must replace the hoses. Tighten the hose connections if water is dripping out near the connection points.

Door

The door has gaskets or seals on it to prevent water escaping from the tub. These gaskets, however, can tear or warp over time. Get new gaskets. Clean the gaskets if they are not closing properly due to dirt buildup. See if the cabinet is level by using a carpenter's level. If the cabinet is not level, water can squeeze between the door seals. Adjust the leveling feet. Check that the door latch is tight enough. If not, open up the main access door, and tighten the latch. Avoid placing large dishes near the door. Or, water can bounce off these items and escape through the door. Always load the lower rack with dishes. The spray arm forcefully ejects water, and dishes stop the water from directly hitting the door.

Main Tub Seal

The main tub seal keeps water from the tub from leaking into the motor shaft. If you see water near the underneath the dishwasher, stop the dishwasher, and disconnect it from the power source. Remove the lower rack, impellers and spray arm. Examine the seal, and see if it's brittle or cracked. Replace it by prying out the old seal with a crowbar.

Detergent/Water Temperature

Only use enough detergent to clean your dishes, and avoid using old or clumping detergent. This causes excessive sudsing, which can leak through the seals. Open up the dishwasher, and allow the suds to evaporate. Pour 1 gallon of water in the tub, and press "Start/Reset" twice to drain the water out of the tub. Do not use water with temperatures above 150 degrees Fahrenheit. Lower the temperature setting on your hot water heater if too hot. Excessively warm water can compromise the seals.
