Butcher blocks are used in both commercial and residential environments. They require the same amount of care and cleaning in both settings. Because most people cut a variety of foods on butcher blocks, cleaning is a very important process to prevent food contamination. If you cut vegetables after you had just cut raw meat, you risk contaminating the vegetables you just prepared. Here are some tips on the basics in cleaning a butcher block.
Instructions
1. Take one drop of dishwasher soap and place on a wet sponge with a scrubber back. Rub the entire surface of the butcher block with the soapy sponge.
2. Flip the sponge to the scrubber side and scrub the surface of the butcher block. Rinse the sponge of the soap and wipe down the block several times.
3. Cut a lemon in half. Sprinkle the butcher block with salt. Rub the salted block with the cut side of the lemon. Let the block sit for about 15 minutes. Rinse with clean, cool water.
