Remove Washing Machine Mold

Clean your washing machine monthly so it functions optimally.

Washing machines are used to clean clothing and linens, but the washing machine needs to be cleaned from time to time otherwise it won't function effectively. In addition to mold and mildew, soap scum, dirt and mineral deposits can build up inside the washing machine. After a thorough cleaning, you can run your washing machine once monthly on a hot temperature setting with nothing more than bleach to keep mold and bacteria at bay.

Instructions

1. Fill a dishpan with one liter of hot water, 1/2 cup baking soda and 1/2 cup vinegar. Remove any parts that are meant to come off like the detergent drawer or fabric softener dispenser. Soak them in the dishpan for 10 minutes before scrubbing them and rinsing them under a stream of cold water.

2. Mix another batch of cleanser in the dishpan with one liter of hot water, 1/2 cup baking soda and 1/2 cup vinegar. Dip a scrub brush in the solution and use it to scrub the area in around the fabric softener and detergent dispensers. Scrub the entire interior of the washing machine and door.

3. Fill a spray bottle with the cleansing solution and use it to spray hard to reach areas of the washing machine. Let the cleanser sit on the washing machine before rinsing it off with a second spray bottle of clean water.

4. Put undiluted bleach in a empty spray bottle and use that to spray any areas that still aren't mold free, or clean. Allow the bleach to sit for a few minutes before scrubbing it and rinsing it away with water.

5. Put the detergent drawer and fabric softener dispenser back together. Pour two cups of bleach into the basin of the washing machine. Set your washer to the highest heat setting and longest wash cycle. Allow it to run through to complete the cleaning process.
