Several models of Frigidaire washing machines have been recalled as a result of lawsuits.
Over the last decade, Frigidaite, and the larger GE organization, have faced several lawsuits concerning defects in their washing machines. These have led to recalls of several products.
2000-2003 Lawsuit
In 2000, GE was sued by then New York Attorney General Elliot Spitzer, alleging that the company had failed to inform it's customers of a repair that would prevent fires in their Frigidaire dishwashers. The lawsuit was settled in 2003, with GE being ordered to pay over $780,000 to customers who had bought the washing machines in question. GE also paid $650,000 in civil fees, and offered a free rewiring for dishwashers that had not been recalled.
2005 and 2007 Recalls
In February of 2005, GE announced another recall of nearly 75,000 dishwashing units. These units were once again recalled due to fire hazards. A similar problem caused the recall of another 2.5 million dishwashers in 2007. This second recall came in the wake of similar recalls by Whirpool, Kenmor, Maytag, and Jenn-Air in 2005 and 2007.
2010 Recall
GE's most recent dishwasher recall occurred in October 2010, after five reports of fires caused by faulty wiring mechanisms. Approximately 175,000 units were recalled, and GE offered customers who had bought the dishwashers free repairs or rebates on future GE dishwasher purchases.
