When you purchase a Bosch washing machine, installation may be offered at no additional charge. But if there is a charge for installation you may want to save a little money and install the machine yourself. The process is simple enough for a layman to accomplish and requires few tools, as most of the necessary parts are included. The installation will go quicker if you have a helping hand, as moving the washer into place can be awkward because of its size and weight.
Instructions
1. The washing machine has four bolts on the back that are used for transportation. These must be removed before the washing machine is installed. It is important to loosen all of the bolts before actually removing any of them. Use a socket wrench equipped with a 1/2" socket to loosen them, then remove the top bolts first, followed by the bottom bolts.
2. Place the plastic covers that came with the washing machine into the holes from which the transportation bolts were removed. If the washing machine model you are installing did not come with these covers, skip this step.
3. Locate the hot and cold water hoses on the back of the washing machine, which will be clearly marked and be held flush against the machine by clips. Gently pull the hoses away from the clips and screw the hoses by hand onto the water spigots in your home. Once the hoses have been screwed onto the spigots, turn them on and make sure there are no leaks.
4. Connect the drainage hose, which comes in a plastic package along with the washing machine. Place a hose clamp on the end of the drainage hose and attach it to the port on the top left side of the back of the washing machine. Use a screwdriver to tighten the hose clamp so that it holds the hose securely to the drainage port.
5. Place the other end of the drainage hose into the wall drain, which is most likely located between the two water spigots in your home. An elbow-shaped device may be included with your washer that can be fit onto the hose to help it stay in place when inserted into the wall drain. Whether or not the elbow is used, the hose should be inserted at least four inches into the wall drain to prevent it from coming loose.
6. Plug the power cord into the wall outlet. If the plug does not fit, the outlet must be removed and a proper outlet must be installed. This task should be completed by a qualified electrician.
7. Push the washing machine up against the wall, leaving a few inches between them to avoid putting undue pressure on the hoses. The washing machine is ready to use.
