Homemade Dishwasher Detergent
Dishwasher detergent is expensive, and filled with chemicals that you may not want around your family. Making homemade dishwasher detergent to replace store bought detergent will get your dishes clean and save you money.
Recipe One
This simple recipe uses only two ingredients, Borax and baking soda. Simply mix 1 tbsp. of baking soda and 1 tbsp. of Borax in each load. If you have hard water add a little extra baking soda.
Recipe Two
This recipe calls for Castile soap. Mix 1/2 cup liquid Castile soap, 1/2 cup water, 1 tsp. lemon juice, 1/2 cup vinegar and 3 drops of tea tree oil. Mix well and add 2 tbsp. in each load.
Recipe Three
Mix 1 tbsp. of your favorite liquid dish detergent with 1/4 cup Washing Soda (sodium carbonate, not baking soda) and add mixture to dishwasher detergent compartment. Washing soda can be found in most supermarkets in the laundry aisle.
Potential
To extend the life of your regular dishwasher detergent, try using 1/2 tbsp. of Borax, and 1/2 tbsp. of baking soda and just a pinch of store bought dishwasher detergent crystals.
Rinse Aid
For an all natural rinse aid, fill your rinse dispenser with vinegar prior to each load. Vinegar can be used in both standard and stainless steel dishwashers.
