Portable Tire Changer Instructions

Portable tire changers allow you to change or repair tires in minutes.

Portable tire changers allow you to remove a tire and fix or replace it without using expensive pneumatic hookups or power tools. Portable tire changers are used in racing, on farms and on job sites, but are useful to have at home as well. Move it from place to place as needed and, when used properly, a portable tire changer can help you remove or replace a tire in minutes.

Instructions

1. Attach the long base section to the center post using the bolts and nuts provided and an adjustable wrench. The end of the pedestal base with the triangular stop should be in front of the bead breaker unit.

2. Bolt the shorter pieces in place and tighten using an adjustable wrench. Holes have been predrilled into the base in order for you to fasten it to the floor if desired.

3. Lay the tire flat on the pedestal base. Use the triangular stop to prevent the tire from sliding.

4. Slip the flat end of the mount/demount bar into the bead breaker handle.

5. Place the breaker shoe against the edge of the tire rim. To adjust the shoe height, remove the pin in the handle and adjust accordingly. Then replace the pin in the appropriate hole.

6. Push the mount/dismount bar down to force the bead head (edge of the tire that sits on the wheel) off the rim. You may have to try in several spots before the bead head comes off.

7. Flip the tire over and repeat.

8. Place the tire on the changer with the valve stem facing up and the lug pin sticking up through the rim hole.

9. Position the pedestal spider (nut-like piece with four arms protruding) over the center post and screw the center post cap in place. Hand-tighten the pedestal spider.

10. Insert the flat end of the mount/demount bar between the tire and rim.

11. Pull the bar across the tire and force the edge of the bead over the rim.

12. Continue pulling around the center post to demount the bead.

13. Remount the tire by first setting the tire on top of the rim and then hook the hooked end of the bar over the edge of the rim.

14. Place the bead so that it will slide over the flat portion of the hook and push the tire forward (over the rim).

15. Push down on the tire with one hand against the rim and pull the bar clockwise around the center post with your other hand until the bead moves onto the tire rim. Keep one hand on the tire until a few inches of bead is mounted, then let go of the rim to use both hands on the bar.

16. Pull the bead over all the way around the rim until the tire mounts over the edge of the bead.

17.Repeat Steps 14 to 16 on the second bead to mount the tire completely.
