Clean your washing machine regularly to remove bacteria and dirt.
LG washing machines come in a variety of models, all of which are front-loading or top-loading. Once a month, your washer should be thoroughly cleaned to remove dirt, bacteria, mold, mildew and other debris that may hinder a clean load of laundry.
Instructions
Top-Loading Machines
1. Fill an empty spray bottle with white vinegar or an all-purpose cleaner.
2. Spray the contents onto the underside of the washer's lid. Wipe down the lid with paper towels, and use an old toothbrush to get into tight corners.
3. Set the washer to the hottest water temperature and largest load setting. Fill the washer with hot water.
4. Pour 2 cups of lemon juice or 2 cups of vinegar into the washer. Add ½ cup of baking soda. If your washing machine has rust inside, use lemon juice and baking soda.
5. Let the washer run a complete cycle. Fill the washer again with the hottest water on the largest load setting. Pour 2 cups of chlorine bleach into the water.
6. Run the washer through a complete cycle again, then follow with a cycle of plain water.
7. Remove the bleach and fabric softener dispensers from the washers. Soak them in a bucket with warm water for about an hour.
8. Lay the dispensers on paper towels and spray them with an all-purpose cleaner. Wipe them down with a rag. Use an old toothbrush to get into corners.
9. Dry the dispensers with clean paper towels and place them back into the washer.
Front-Loading Machines
10. Fill a bucket with 4 cups of hot water. Add ½ cup white vinegar and ½ cup baking soda.
11. Pull out the detergent drawer from the washer, and place it in the bucket. Let it soak for about 10 minutes. Scrub the drawer with a rag and/or old toothbrush. Rinse in plain water and lay on a towel to dry.
12. Clean out the compartment that holds the detergent drawer with the same vinegar, baking soda and water solution. Use a rag and toothbrush to scrub away any grime or buildup. Rinse the area with a rag dampened in plain water.
13. Clean the rubber seal on the door of the washer. Dip a rag into the bucket of cleaning solution. Wring it out and wipe down the rubber seal. Pull the seal back a bit to get all of the grime from behind the seal. Use a cotton swab to get into hard-to-reach places along the seam of the seal.
14. Place the detergent drawer back into the compartment. If it has not air-dried completely, wipe it down with a dry rag.
15. Pour 2 cups of chlorine bleach into the bleach tray of the detergent compartment. Set the washer on the hottest water setting.
16. Run a complete wash cycle with the bleach and no clothing to kill bacteria and mold. Place 2 cups of white vinegar into the detergent compartment and run a complete wash cycle with hot water to remove any odor from the washer.
17.Run a final wash cycle with plain hot water. Leave the door of the front loading washer open to air dry.
