Save money by making your own dishwasher gel soap.
Making your own dishwasher gel soap means you never have to worry about running out, or finding dishwasher soap on sale. It takes under 10 minutes to make a batch of dishwasher gel soap that will last for a whole month -- longer if you don't run the dishwasher every day. Once you mix your detergent, be sure to let it sit overnight before using, so it will gel properly. You can use the ingredients that go into dishwasher soap to clean other items in your household, so buy big bags if you find them on sale.
Instructions
1. Remove the lid of the plastic container. Set the container in the kitchen sink.
2. Place the funnel in the mouth of the plastic container.
3. Pour the 1/2 cup of table salt into the container and then add the 1/2 cup of Borax, the 1/2 cup of washing soda and the 1/4 cup of citric acid.
4. Remove the funnel and place the lid the plastic container. Shake the container to blend the powders.
5. Remove the lid and fill the container to 1 inch from the top with warm water. Replace the lid and shake the container to blend. Shake for a full two minutes to completely blend the solution.
6. Leave the dishwasher gel soap to sit in the container overnight. Shake the container to blend if needed, then use as you would a commercially made dishwasher soap.
