Remove Dishwasher Clouding

Overcrowding a dishwasher can cause clouding on glassware.

Although dishwashers are convenient, they don't always provide desirable results. Adding insufficient amounts of dishwashing detergent to dishwashers sometimes causes clouding on drinking glasses and dishes. Minerals in hard water also often generate hazy, white film on dishware and glasses. Aside from making glassware and dishware visibly unappealing, dishwasher clouding becomes more stuck-on with passing time. The key to removing dishwasher clouding is to address stained glasses and dishes directly after unloading them from the dishwasher. Fortunately, dishwasher clouding is generally removable with basic solutions.

Instructions

1. Cut a clean, white paper towel lengthwise into 2-inch-wide strips. Dip each strip in undiluted white vinegar. White vinegar dissolves dishwasher clouding and film on dishware and glassware.

2. Lay the wet paper towel strips on the clouded dishware and glassware. Fully cover the dishwasher clouding. Wait an hour for the vinegar-soaked strips to take full effect on the white film. Re-soak the strips if they dry out during the hour.

3. Peel the strips off the dishware and glassware. Rinse the dishware and glassware with fresh water.

4. Inspect the dishware and glassware for dishwasher clouding. If the film persists, moisten a dish sponge with undiluted white vinegar. Scrub the remaining clouding off the glassware and dishware using the sponge.

5. Rinse the dishware and glassware with fresh water. Thoroughly dry the dishes and glasses with a clean dish towel.
