Hydrogen peroxide can disinfect your dishwasher.
Cleaning the dishwasher is often overlooked, but scraps of food, sitting water and soap scum can build up at the bottom, creating a perfect breeding ground for mold and causing dishes to come out of the wash with a film. Household hydrogen peroxide is effective at killing molds and germs and will remove them from your dishwasher. Follow this procedure for a clean, disinfected dishwasher.
Instructions
1. Use a cleaning brush to scrub the dishwasher racks with liquid soap and water. You can make this easier by removing them from the dishwasher and scrubbing them in the bathtub.
2. Scrub the metal sprayer arm of the dishwasher with liquid soap on an old toothbrush or cleaning brush. Remove any particles of gunk in the little water holes of the sprayer with a toothpick.
3. Clean the drain grate at the bottom of the dishwasher with the cleaning brush. Remove any solids, bits of food or other particles with your hand or a paper towel.
4. Use the cleaning brush and liquid soap to scrub all around the door seal. This is a common area to develop mold.
5. Replace the racks, if you had removed them for cleaning.
6. Pour 2 cups of hydrogen peroxide into the bottom of the dishwasher and run on the hottest setting.
