When you notice leaks around the door of your GE dishwasher door, the door gasket requires inspection. GE uses three types of door gaskets on its dishwashers. The high-end and aluminum dishwashers use a gasket on the cabinet opening. The aluminum dishwashers use a small wire at the bottom of the cabinet to aid in holding the gasket. Low-end dishwasher models have a gasket on the inside of the door. Sometimes it is only a matter of pushing the gasket back into its holding groove. More often, fixing a leak in the GE dishwasher door requires gasket replacement.
Instructions
Aluminum Models and High-End Plastic Tubs
1. Pull the gasket out of the cabinet groove with your fingers, starting at one of the bottom corners and working around the dishwasher to the opposite bottom corner. Remove the bottom wire from the ends of the gasket, if you have the aluminum model. The wire inserts into a hole in each end of the gasket, and tucks under the bottom edge of the door.
2. Search for the line on the groove edge of the new gasket. This is the center line of the gasket. Align the line on the gasket with the top center of the dishwasher gasket groove, with the groove on the gasket pointing toward the dishwasher. Press the gasket into the dishwasher groove around the perimeter of the dishwasher. Do not stretch the gasket while pushing it into the grooves.
3. Tuck the bottom ends of the gasket under the edge of the door. If you have the aluminum model, insert the holding wire into each end of the gasket before tucking the gasket ends and the wire under the door edge.
Low-End Plastic Tub Models
4. Slide the lower dish rack out of the dishwasher. This will give you room to work on the bottom edge of the dishwasher door. This door gasket installs completely around the perimeter of the door.
5. Pull the gasket out of the door with your fingers, starting at the top center of the door. Find the notch on the new door gasket. This notch is the center of the door gasket and installs at the top center of the door.
6. Insert the notch side of the gasket into the door groove, and push the gasket into the groove with your fingers. Push the gasket completely around the perimeter of the door until you get to the bottom of the door.
7. Place a small mirror behind the bottom edge of the door on one side of the dishwasher tub. This will help you see the groove on the bottom edge of the door. Push the gasket into the groove until you reach the end of the gasket. Repeat for the opposite side of the door.
