Build a simple paint booth with a cardboard box.
You don't need to go to great expense to build a small paint booth for painting models. Models are small, and only require a few cubic feet of space for painting. You can build a small, portable paint booth for a garage or a hobby room using a large cardboard box, such as those used for shipping appliances. The box will contain the vapors while a small household fan blows them out the back. You can pick up a discarded appliance cardboard box from any local furniture store.
Instructions
1. Slide a worktable up against an open window or as near as you can to an open window.
2. Lay the cardboard box on the table. Use a utility knife to cut the bottom and top off the box. You should now have an open sleeve approximately 32-by-32-by-36 inches.
3. Slide one end of the box against the window. Place a small electric fan in the end of the box facing the window. Pull the cord out the back of the box and plug it in.
4. Place a 12-by-12 wire rack across two 4-by-4-by-12 inch blocks, placed 12 inches inside the front opening of the box.
5. Reach in and turn on the fan. Place the model on the rack and spray it normally. Turn the model a quarter-turn at a time if necessary.
