The Kenmore Elite dishwasher line covers quite a few different models. Most of the Elite dishwashers use upper and lower spray arms. When your dishes are not coming out clean, or residue is left on them, it might be necessary to clean the trap on your dishwasher. Getting to the trap on a Kenmore Elite dishwasher depends on the model you own. Once you get the trap off the dishwasher, rinse the trap and clean inside the drain cavity of the dishwasher to remove large obstructions from the drain.
Instructions
1. Turn off the circuit breaker powering the Kenmore Elite dishwasher. There is usually a label either on the door of the circuit breaker box or by the individual circuit that indicates which breaker goes to the dishwasher.
2. Open up the dishwasher door and remove the lower dish rack. The trap on the Kenmore Elite is either on the right bottom corner or directly below the lower wash arm depending upon your model. The trap is a plastic screen covering the drain outlet of the dishwasher.
3. Lift up the outer right edge of the trap with your fingers, if your trap is on the bottom right corner. Continue lifting and pulling until the trap unsnaps from the bottom of the dishwasher.
4. Disconnect the lower spray arm tube from the water supply tube at the back of the dishwasher, if your trap is under the spray arm. The tube from the lower spray arm assembly slides over the water supply tube and uses a hook to connect over the tab on top. Raise the hook slightly with your thumb and turn the spray arm assembly to the right to disconnect it from the supply tube.
5. Grab the lower spray arm assembly near its base with your hands and lift it off the bottom of the dishwasher. Find the screw near the center of the trap that secures the trap to the dishwasher. Remove the screw with a Phillips-head screwdriver and lift the trap away from the dishwasher.
