Clean a stale smelling dishwasher with vinegar.
When stale smells form in the dishwasher, the odors are typically the result of dirty dishes that stand in the dishwasher for several days, or residue that builds up over time as you run items through the dishwasher. To keep the unit smelling fresh and clean, allow the dishwasher to ventilate properly and clean the appliance, as needed.
Instructions
1. Scrub down the dishwasher with a cleaning sponge soaked in hot, soapy water.
2. Sprinkle 1 cup baking soda over the bottom of your empty dishwasher.
3. Pour 1 cup of white vinegar into a bowl that is dishwasher-safe and place it on the top shelf of the dishwasher. Use the vinegar with or without the baking soda. Vinegar not only deodorizes, but also disinfects.
4. Run a regular wash cycle, allowing the baking soda and/or vinegar to wash through the unit.
5. Repeat each month or as needed when you notice a stale smell.
