A dirty dishwasher filter may interfere with the cleanliness of your dishes.
All dishwashers contain filters that keep foreign objects and large particles away from the pumps. Although newly-manufactured dishwashers contain self-cleaning filters, older models require routine cleaning. The filter must first be removed and cleaned on a regular basis. Blocked or clogged filters can interfere with the normal functioning of your dishwasher and its ability to completely clean your dishes. Consult with the owner's manual for specific directions for removing and cleaning the dishwasher filter. However, there are specific, standard steps that are universal to every dishwasher filter.
Instructions
1. Remove all items from the dishwasher, including the racks. Locate the filter, which is generally positioned at the bottom of the dishwasher.
2. Clean around the area where the filter is located, removing all particles and debris with a damp cloth. Unscrew the filter and remove it from the dishwasher. Remove the debris inside the filter with the damp cloth, as well.
3. Mix the bleach, baking soda and salt together to form a mixture. Pour the mixture into the filter and allow it to sit overnight. Rinse the filter with cool water the next day. Insert it into the dishwasher with a screwdriver (if necessary) and set your machine to run as normal.
