Removing The Bottom Strainer In An Inglis Dishwasher

When your dishes aren't getting as clean as you like in your Inglis dishwasher, it might be time to remove and clean the bottom strainer. The strainer filters out large debris from inside the dishwasher to prevent it from entering the drain and pump. The bottom strainer, unlike a standard filter strainers, covers the lower part of the Inglis dishwasher. Removing the bottom strainer in an Inglis dishwasher requires some disassembly of the dishwasher.

Disconnect Power

Before disassembling the Inglis dishwasher, it is necessary to disconnect the power to the unit. Go to your home electrical panel and turn off the circuit breaker that powers the dishwasher. Try running the dishwasher to ensure that the power is off. This helps prevent accidental shocks, especially since you are working around water.

Disassemble The Dishwasher

Open the Inglis dishwasher door and slide out the bottom dish rack. Examine the lower sprat arm and look for a screw in the top center of the hub. If you have a screw on your spray arm, remove it with a Phillips screwdriver and lift the spray arm out of the dishwasher. If the top of your spray arm hub is flat, grab it by the sides and twist it counterclockwise to remove it from the spray arm.

Disconnect Water Feed Tube

Reach behind the two tabs on the side of the lower feed tube where it connects to the pump at the bottom of the dishwasher. Place your index finger on one tab and your thumb on the opposite tab. Press the tabs away from the feed tube while you push the bottom of the feed tube toward the back of the washer with your free hand.

Remove The Bottom Strainer

Slip a plastic spatula under the fine strainer. The plastic spatula will not scratch the finish of the dishwasher. The strainer has pegs along the bottom edge that insert into holes in the bottom of the dishwasher. Pry the strainer up, releasing the pegs from the holes. Once you have one side loose, the remaining circumference of the strainer will release using your hands.
