Many Viking ranges have an electronic ignition system that allows you to light the gas burners without relying on a pilot light. The ignition system consists of a spark module and several igniters, one installed on each burner. To light the burner, the igniter receives an electric current from the spark module. The current passing through the igniter creates a spark that ignites the gas. After regular use the igniter will fail, at which point it must be removed and a new igniter must be installed.
Instructions
1. Unplug the range from the wall outlet before starting the repair.
2. Remove the burner grates and drip pans from the top of the range.
3. Remove the burner grate supports from the range by lifting them off, or removing the screws securing them to the range, depending on model.
4. Remove the screws securing the igniter to the burner cross-braces.
5. Pull the wire connector off the igniter, then discard the igniter.
6. Plug the wire connector connector onto the terminal on the new igniter.
7. Secure the igniter to the cross-base using the screws that were removed.
8. Replace the burner grate supports, drip pans and burner grates, then restore power to the range.
