Replicate The Iron Chef Contest At Home

Replicate the Iron Chef Contest at Home

Iron Chef is a cooking competition that airs on The Food Network. The show features three Iron Chefs, who are often established chefs, and each week one of them competes against a challenger who is either an established chef or someone with fewers years of experience than the Iron Chef. At the beginning of the show, the host reveals the secret ingredient and both the Iron Chef and the challenger must make dishes that include it. Here's how you can replicate this same contest.

Instructions

Decide Who Will Compete

1. Decide on who will compete in the contest. If your parents are excellent cooks, ask them to compete against each other in the contest.

2. Ask your siblings if they want to compete in the contest. If you have a brother who is known for his barbecue ribs or if your sister makes the best beef brisket, see if they would be interested.

3. Consider asking your friends if they want to be in the contest. You may have a good friend who may not be the best cook but she likes good competitions. Or you may know a friend who has a hidden talent for cooking.

4. If you and your spouse are good in the kitchen, compete against each other and have your children judge the dishes.

Decide On A Secret Ingredient

5. Think about an ingredient that would be unusual in a dish. For example, you can have the contestants use tomato sauce as the secret ingredient but they can only use it to make desserts. Or you could have them use chocolate for beef dishes.

6. Choose an ingredient that the family enjoys. If your family loves to eat sweet potatoes, you should consider this as the secret ingredient but the catch is that they can't use it to make popular dishes such as sweet potato pie. The goal is to create unusual dishes with the sweet potatoes.

7. Choose an ingredient that is rarely eaten in the home. For example, if your family doesn't normally buy ground turkey, use this as the secret ingredient. This encourages both healthy eating habits and creativity in the kitchen.

Choose Your Judges

8. Pick relatives or friends who will keep an open mind about different kinds of foods. Also choose relatives or friends who will be honest about the dishes' quality.

9. To make it interesting, choose some of your close neighbors as judges. Or you can ask your church members or co-workers if they would like to be judges for the contest.

10. If you're a teacher and competing in the contest, you can invite your students as judges of the dishes. You can also ask their parents if you know them well enough.
