Stop Water From Your Kitchen Faucet From Flooding The Countertop

Bad rubber rings on your kitchen faucet causes water to leak out of the base and flood the counter.

Fixing a leaking kitchen faucet requires different steps than fixing some other faucets, such as those in bathtubs or showers. Repairing a kitchen faucet does not require a homeowner to have advanced knowledge of plumbing or even to have special plumbing tools. You can find the replacement rubber rings as well as the plumber's grease necessary to repair your leaking kitchen faucet at your local plumbing supply store or a well-stocked home improvement center.

Instructions

1. Close the house's main water valve to stop the flow of water to the faucet. Turn on another faucet all the way to drain any leftover water pressure from the plumbing.

2. Remove the retaining screw from the faucet, located either at the base of the faucet's handle or underneath a cap at the base of the handle. Lift the handle off the faucet and remove any adapter pieces using a screwdriver and Allen wrench.

3. Pull out any metal clips or pins present using a pair of needle-nose pliers. Remove the faucet's cartridge or valve assembly by twisting it counterclockwise using a pair of pliers.

4. Lift up on the faucet's spout to remove it from the assembly. Insert the blade of a flat-head screwdriver under the two rubber rings to lift them off of the faucet assembly.

5. Spread plumber's grease on new rubber rings and slide them onto the faucet in the same spots as the old rings. Put the faucet back together by replacing the parts you removed in reverse order.
