Many kids who are 14 can start babysitting for friends and relatives. Many towns provide babysitting safety programs where kids learn about taking care of children of all different ages. It is a great job that they will be able to do anywhere and also leads to good opportunities. If they really like childcare, they can consider becoming an Au Pair and working with families in other locations.
Food Service
Kids of this age can work as dishwashers for restaurants and sometimes as bussers. This experience in the food service industry can provide opportunity for advancement to waiting tables or cooking. Family diners and fast food restaurants are great places to start out because they may be able to provide schedules that are easy for students to maintain.
Newspaper Routes
Newspaper routes provide year round part-time employment for all ages.
Paper routes may seem old-fashioned, but they are a great way to earn money and teach kids be reliable. Talk to the local paper to see if it has job openings. They can ride a bike or walk to deliver the papers. This allows them to build relationships with the people on their routes and gives them a sense of responsibility. Students mus ensure that this job will not interfere with school and other commitments.
