Get Rid Of The Odor Of A Kitchen Sponge That Stinks

Kitchen sponges are useful for cleaning and sanitizing.

Kitchen sponges are useful for cleaning countertops, appliances and tables. Many people use them to wash dishes. The kitchen is one of the most important areas of your home that you need to keep clean and sanitary. Bacterial buildup gives sponges an odor after a few days, but there are easy ways to remedy this problem.

Instructions

Bleach and Water Solution

1. Fill a bucket or your kitchen sink with a gallon of water.

2. Pour into the basin about 2/3 cup of bleach, as suggested by the Mrs. Clean USA website.

3. Soak your sponge in this solution for about 30 minutes and then rinse it well. It should be clean, odor free and sanitary.

Microwave Method

4. Add a few drops of anti-bacterial dishwashing soap to some hot water.

5. Squeeze and clean the sponge thoroughly in the soapy water mixture.

6. Rinse the sponge thoroughly under running water.

7. Place the wet sponge into a microwave oven, as suggested by the Clean Stuff website.

8. Set the microwave on high for approximately two minutes, depending on the strength of your microwave. Keep an eye on the sponge to make sure it is not burning. Turn off the microwave if the sponge starts to burn.

9. Let the sponge cool for a few minutes in the microwave. Remove it with tongs or oven mitts to avoid burning yourself.
