Clean grills with brushes, heat and oil.
If you have a gas grill, you may be a little intimidated by the cleaning requirements. Grilling aficionados prefer to clean their grills both before and after every use to keep them clean. If you do not clean your grill at all, it will develop thick grease and soot layers that can permanently damage the grill. When you choose your cleaning strategy, employ the basic processes to keep a grill clean.
Heat
Heat is one of the most useful things to use when cleaning grills. The heat will burn up much of the grease and grime associated with grilling, leaving carbonized remnants that are much easier to remove. If you are starting a full grill cleaning, turn up the heat and let the grill bake itself for several minutes before you begin any cleaning by hand.
Grill Brush
A grill brush is a specialized scrubbing brush made out of copper bristles or similar materials that can easily scour the grill and its grates. While these brushes can cost extra money, you may find the ordinary scrubbing brushes in your home are not sufficient for some of the deposits that grills can build up. Always use the grill brush first before deciding if you need to use soaps or additional cleaners.
Soaps
Using soaps with a grill is tricky. Most common solvents and grease cleaners cannot be used with grills since they will eat into the grating itself. Dishwasher soap is better but may also pose a danger if it comes with extra grease-fighting chemicals. Use a small amount of light dishwashing soap mixed with water if you need to use soap at all, and wipe off all the remaining residue.
Oil
Rubbing a grill with oil is known as seasoning. This oil helps grills stay clean the next time they are used, especially stainless steel grills. The oil helps to prevent carbonized food from bonding to the metal, making it easier to remove after grilling is finished. You can use peanut, canola and cottonseed oils, which have good heat tolerance and a high smoke point.
