Borax occurs naturally on Earth. Borax dissolves in water and often is an ingredient in commercial detergents. Borax along with other common household ingredients effectively cleans dishes. Homemade detergents affect the environment less than most commercial products. After you combine the ingredients to make the dishwasher detergent, it will not expire as long as you keep it stored in an airtight container in a cool and dark location.
Instructions
Strong Borax Detergent
1. Pour 1 cup of washing soda into a glass jar.
2. Add 1 cup of borax to the jar.
3. Combine 1/2 cup of table salt and 1/2 cup of citric acid in the jar.
4. Secure a lid tightly on the glass jar. Shake the ingredients until you have combined them together well.
5. Add 1 tbsp. of dishwasher detergent to each load.
Simple Borax Detergent
6. Add 1 cup of borax and 1 cup of baking soda to a glass jar.
7. Place a lid on the jar securely. Shake the jar to mix the baking soda and borax together.
8. Add 2 tbsp. of the detergent to each dish load.
