Repair A Door Gasket On A Front Load Washer

Replace the gasket on a front loading washer to fix leaks.


When you begin to notice water leaking from your front loader washer, it may be a sign that the door gasket needs to be repaired. The door gasket will have to be replaced to repair the problem. Once you know repair a door gasket, you will have your washer running again. The door gasket fits around the tub flange of the door opening. Removal of the washer top will be necessary to replace the gasket .


Instructions


1. Disconnect the front load washer from the wall outlet. Turn off the water supply to the washer by turning the water valves off by a wall. Pull the washer away from the wall enough that you can work behind it.


2. Use a Phillips-head screwdriver to remove the three screws that secure the top panel to the rear panel. Lift the top panel up and remove it from the washer.


3. Open the washer door and use a small flathead screwdriver to pry the spring clamp back and off of the groove of the door seal. Remove the spring clamp band from the washer.


4. Pull the front of the door seal off of the flange using your fingers. Look inside the washer from the top and locate the rear clamp of the door seal. Use a Phillips-head screwdriver to loosen the screw on the rear clamp, but do not remove screw.


5. Working from inside the front panel, pull the door seal and the rear spring clamp off of the tub flange. Place your hands on either side of the door seal drain tube at the bottom and pull the drain tube out of the tub opening.


6. Take the old door seal with you to an appliance repair store. Make sure that new door seal matches the faulty door seal. You also need to purchase high-temperature water sealant to apply to the drain tube on the door seal.


7. Apply the high temperature water sealant to the inside lip of the drain tube of the new door seal. Insert the door seal drain tube into the tub opening by pushing it in with your fingers.


8. Working behind the front panel, start pushing the front of the door seal over the tub flange. Be careful while doing this to make sure you do not puncture or tear the new door seal. Continue installing the door seal until the rear of the seal is connected to the tub flange.


9. Tighten the rear clamp of the door seal using a Phillips head screwdriver. Go to the front of the washer and gently turn the outside of the door seal into place around the outer flange. Carefully reattach the front spring clamp around the front of the door seal.


10. Close the washer door and reattach the top of the washer. Push the washer back into its permanent position and plug the washer power cord into the electrical outlet.
