The Best 30 Inch Electric Range

Electric ranges provide precise heat for professional cooking.

Electrical ranges heat up food with a more refined precision than traditional gas ranges, using infrared elements to heat the cookware quickly. Some ranges even use induction, a new technology that allows cooking to occur much faster than it ever did before. To get the best buy from an electric range, look for the features that best apply to what you want out of the range.

Safety Lockout

If you have any small children in your home, or plan to receive guests with small children, get a range with a control lockout. This feature locks out all range controls so nothing happens while you aren't present. Features like these prevent small children from getting burned while unattended.

Convenience

If you have ever cooked with a range that has knobs sticking out of it, you probably know how annoying it is to have to take care not to accidentally lean on a knob, which could turn it on without you even realizing. Get a range with a touch control panel if you don't want to end up making mistakes while cooking. Smooth-top ranges give you another advantage in that you can clean them easily.

Go for Induction

If you want the best heating for your purchase, get an oven that inducts heat into an element instead of radiating it. Induction creates a strong magnetic field that produces "friction" on magnetic surfaces, which resist the field. This resistance makes the surface glow a bright red color, emitting superior amounts of heat.

More Efficient Heating

Sometimes, you might want to heat something smaller than usual on your range, which would require a smaller heating element than what your range provides. If you would like to heat, for example, a small coffeepot, you probably don't need all the width of even the smallest range element to do this. To heat smaller things, consider a range with adjustable elements that allow you to change the surface they cover. This also helps you save money you would otherwise have spent on electricity used to heat the air around a pot instead of the pot itself.
