Melaleuca oil can be added to homemade dishwasher detergent.
Melaleuca alternifolia is commonly known as tea tree oil. It has antimicrobial and antibacterial properties, making it a good substance to use when cleaning. Melaleuca oil can be added to many homemade cleaners, including dishwasher detergent. It will help sterilize the dishes and is a natural alternative to other disinfectants. Melaleuca is not meant to be swallowed, so adding a few drops to the soap will help clean the dishes but they must be rinsed with clear water afterward.
Instructions
1. Measure 1 cup of castile soap, 1/2 cup of water, 1/2 cup of white vinegar, 2 teaspoons of lemon juice and 3 drops of Melaleuca essential oil into an empty jar. Stir all the ingredients. Castile soap is made out of vegetable oils instead of animal fats and can be found in health food stores, some supermarkets and online.
2. Add 2 tablespoons of the mixture to your dishwasher's detergent dispenser.
3. Run your dishwasher through a regular cycle.
